Kia Recently unveiled the EV9, the second model in its new EV family of advanced electric vehicles. Here is what you should know about this large three-row EV crossover.
An advanced powertrain
The 2024 Kia EV9 is equipped with a similar powertrain to the EV6, which means it is one of the most advanced electric vehicles on the market and one of the very rare ones that feature an 800-volt battery infrastructure. This gives the EV9 a strong advantage over its competitors since it can charge at about twice the rate of other electric vehicles. This means that the battery can go from 10 to 80% charge in less than 25 minutes when using a DC fast charger. The only battery option offered in Canada will be a 99.8 kWh unit that will deliver 480 kilometres of range with the single-motor drivetrain. The available dual-motor all-wheel drive system will offer an output of 379 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. In addition to its high output and quick charging capability, this powertrain also features the ability to send power from the battery back out to the charging port in order to power all sorts of equipment or even an entire house during an outage.
A practical SUV
The 2024 Kia EV9 is not only an advanced electric vehicle, it is also one of the first to take the shape of a large three-row SUV that can comfortably carry up to seven passengers and an impressive quantity of luggage. Indeed, the EV9 benefits from 2,320 litres of cargo capacity behind the front seats and 521 litres behind the third row. This is almost as much interior space as the 2023 Telluride, which is similarly sized on the outside as well. In addition to its passenger and luggage capacity, the new EV9 can also tow up to 5,000 pounds, making it ideal for drivers who need to tow things such as a boat or a small travel trailer on a camping holiday.
All of the latest technologies
The 2024 Kia EV9 is available with all of the latest infotainment and connectivity technologies that make life easier on the road. For example, the EV9’s infotainment system is capable of over-the-air updates and comes standard with the Digital Key system that uses the driver’s phone to unlock the doors and start the vehicle. The EV9 is also equipped with many advanced driver assistance technologies that now use a LiDAR sensor, such as the Advanced Highway Driving Assist and Lane Following Assist 2.
