The 2024 Kia EV9: A Mix of Luxury, Space, and Electric Performance with up to 482 km of Range

From Ultrafast Charging to Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, Kia’s EV9 is Setting a New Standard for Electric SUVs

Kia has unwrapped further details of the eagerly awaited 2024 EV9, set to become the brand's first three-row all-electric SUV.

Built on Kia’s dedicated E-GMP electric platform, the EV9 will offer a choice between two battery options. The standard 76.1-kWh battery paired with a 160-kW (215-hp) rear-wheel-drive motor, and an optional 99.8-kWh battery available in both a single-motor configuration producing 201-hp and a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive setup delivering 283-kW (379-hp) with up to 700 Nm of torque. The EV9's 800V electrical architecture allows ultrafast charging capabilities, charging from 10 to 80% in under 25 minutes. The SUV is estimated to deliver up to 482 kilometres of all-electric range, depending on the trim and configuration.

With an exterior length of 5,018 mm in the GT-Line trim and a width of 1,979 mm, the EV9 is positioned slightly above the Telluride in size, boasting a coefficient of drag at 0.28, comparable to other high-end electric SUVs.

The EV9’s exterior design is both rugged and sophisticated, featuring a Digital Tiger Face, a modern take on Kia’s iconic "Tiger Nose" grille. A world-first feature on upper trims, the Digital Pattern Lighting Grille, illuminates the front grille with light formations as part of the available Dynamic Welcome Light feature. The rear showcases slim Star Map taillights, and flush door handles that auto-deploy are integrated seamlessly into the sheet metal.

Inside, the EV9 offers an elliptical-shaped dash housing a single-panel arrangement of standard dual 12.3-inch screens and a 5.0-inch HVAC screen. The cabin is a symphony of technological conveniences, from haptic switches to standard Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, to over-the-air software updates via the Kia Connect Store. High-power USB-C outlets are strategically positioned throughout the cabin, with a standard tri-zone HVAC system ensuring temperature control for all passengers.

Kia’s Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) have been refined and expanded in the EV9, introducing the Advanced Highway Driving Assist which utilises LiDAR-based technology. This feature joins the 20 other standard ADAS capabilities including various forms of Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist designed to help prevent or minimize collisions under certain conditions.

The vehicle is expected to hit the market in the fourth quarter of 2023 and will be assembled in West Point, Georgia starting in 2024. With the EV9, Kia is not just stretching the boundaries of electric driving range and performance, but also setting new standards in interior comfort, technological sophistication, and utility.
