2021 was an amazing year for Kia despite the challenges in the automotive industry and supply and production issues faced by every automaker. Kia also had these challenges, but the brand's model lineup managed to stand out with Canadian consumers.
Kia registered 79,198 units sold, marking its best year ever. 2021 also Included 7 months of record sales from February to September as well as the best ever month for Kia in Canada with 8,850 units and delivered in June. Overall sales in Canada in 2021 represented a 9.3% increase year-over-year.
“Our success in 2021 can be attributed to our industry leading design, safety and technology, as well as our dedicated dealer network, who remained agile in servicing our customers throughout another pandemic year,” says Elias El-Achhab, Chief Operating Officer at Kia Canada. “As we look forward to 2022, consumer demand remains exceptionally high, leaving us optimistic for the year ahead with new and exciting models like the highly anticipated Kia EV6, set to arrive in dealerships early next year.”
Highlights of the 2021 year for Kia include the compact SUV Kia Seltos, which led the way in sales with 14,436 units sold. The Kia Forte followed closely with 13,190 units sold while the Kia Sportage, the most popular midsize SUV in the Kia lineup, registered 11,837 units sold. Kia also did very well with its electrified vehicles, increasing sales of the Kia Soul EV by 24% and seeing increases of 152% and 21% for the Kia Niro EV and Kia Niro PHEV respectively. Overall, Kia electrified sales reached 4,720 units sold.
Kia also took home multiple awards in 2021 including three AutoTrader.ca awards, two AJAC category wins for the Kia K5 sedan in the best large car category and the Kia Telluride for the second year in a row in the best large utility category, and a very important award from J.D. Power. The latter named Kia the number one mass-market brand and its 2021 Vehicle Dependability Study.
