Kia finishes in the top five for initial quality in latest J.D. Power study

Kia once again stood out in a J.D. Power study, this time finishing fourth overall in the latest J.D. Power Initial Quality Study.

The 2022 study aims to determine which manufacturers and vehicles offer the highest level of quality in the first 90 days of possession. In order to do so, J.D. Power talks with owners who purchased a 2022 vehicle in the last three months.

This year, J.D. Power spoke with over 80,000 consumers who filled out a survey with over 220 questions. The questions aim to determine if the new owners had any kind of problems with their vehicle in the first 90 days.

Kia, with 156 problems per 100 vehicles, finished fourth overall in the automotive industry, well ahead of the average of 180 problems per 100 vehicles. More importantly, Kia finished ahead of mainstream Korean and Japanese automakers including Hyundai, Honda, Mazda, and Toyota. All of those brands had a lower initial quality score then Kia. Moreover, the Kia Forte, won the best initial quality award in its segment, ahead of the Toyota Corolla and the Nissan Sentra.
