How To Protect Your Kia’s Paintjob

How To Protect Your Kia’s Paintjob

You’ve just bought a brand new Kia – let’s say, a Seltos – and you’ve opted for the spectacular Lunar Orange exterior paint. It’s sure to make your crossover stand out on the block – but how to keep it that way? How to ensure that orange paint looks as spectacular as possible, for as long as possible?

Keep it Clean

While maintaining a clean car is a given – after all, who want to show up to dinner in a filthy ride? – but more than for appearances sake, keeping a car clean can keep its paint healthy, as well. Various airborne substances – bird droppings, dirt, salt -- can accumulate on your car’s paint and eat away at it. So keep it clean and we’ll do you one better: try not to spend too much time ion automated car washes, especially those that use touch brushes as they can damage paint.

Wax On, Keep Off

While most new vehicles to come with some form of clear-coat protection, waxing can go the extra mile and prevent those same corrosive elements we spoke about do some really serious paint damage. Waxing can also make it easier to clean your paint. Waxes come in three main forms: spray, paste and liquid. Keep in mind that while the spray version may be the easiest to apply, it’s also the least durable and always keep waxes away from any non-painted, plastic or rubberized sections of your car.

When All Else Fails, Cover Up

Whether you’re not comfortable enough with the equipment to wax your car by yourself, or you simply don’t have the time then there’s always the option of a car cover. These covers – typically formed from polypropylene – come in a variety of sizes and colours and can pack away in a compact manner, like a tent. Leave them in your trunk; they don’t take up a huge amount of room and you can then pull them on whenever you like, wherever you like. Plus, not only will they protect the paint, but they’ll keep your car hidden from overly-interested parties.
